During the year 2009 the volume of residential construction in St. Petersburg decreased by 19%. According to the statistical data, around 2 603 thousand sq. m. were commissioned.

Almost 73% of the new residential buildings were commissioned by privately-owned companies. The share of foreign companies in the total volume of residential construction comprised 5,1%.
In 2009 the share of reconstruction in the total volume of residential construction increased from 1,8% to 2,2%.
In the structure of residential construction by groups of buildings the share of cottages increased from 9% to 10%.
