According to the State Statistics Service of St. Petersburg - 36 974 construction companies were operating in the city by the end of 2009. The number grew by 3,8% compared to 2008.

In 2009 - 56,8 thousands people were employed in construction sector companies, which equals 90% of the 2008 year's level. The average monthly wage in the construction sector is approximately 22 thousands RUB, which equals 87,5% of the city average level.

In the 2009 total volume of consturction works amounted to 323 900 billion RUB that reduced to 78,4% compared with results of 2008.
